The right lubricant depends on what it’s being used with — get this wrong and you can damage a toy or a condom. Here’s the short version.

Water-based

Safe with every toy material and every condom type. Wipes off easily, doesn’t stain sheets. Downside: it dries out faster than silicone, so you may need to reapply.

Silicone-based

Lasts much longer, great for water play (showers, baths). The catch: don’t use it with silicone toys — it can break down the silicone surface over time. Safe with latex condoms.

Oil-based

Good for massage and skin-on-skin, but it breaks down latex condoms and isn’t recommended with most silicone toys. Not the right choice if you’re using protection.

The simple rule

Silicone toy + want it to last → use water-based lube. Using a condom → water or silicone-based, never oil. When in doubt, water-based is the safest default with anything.

Every kit on our Kits page already includes a lubricant matched to what it’s paired with.
